Welcome to the Cabbing (Cabochon) Shed – SHED B

We are a passionate group of individuals dedicated to the art and science of lapidary, the cutting, shaping, and polishing of gemstones and minerals. Our club is committed to promoting the enjoyment and understanding of lapidary while fostering a sense of community among enthusiasts and novices alike.

Key Activities

  • Cabbing – What is a Cabochon you ask? A cabochon, or Cab, is a gemstone that has been shaped and polished, as opposed to faceted. The resulting form is usually a convex (rounded) obverse with a flat reverse. Our well-equipped workshop has the latest in diamond and resin wheeled machines you need to cut, shape and polish beautiful stones for jewellery, or just to admire.
  • Diamond Sawing/Slabbing – we have 6” trim diamond trim saws, fine Opal saws, right up to automated 24” diamond saws to start you on your journey from cutting and shaping rough stones to creating polished gems.
  • Tumble Polishing, Flat-Lapping – Many different ways to cut and finish any type of stone.
  • Training: We aim to provide structured training, resources, knowledge, and hands-on experience to our members, helping them develop their skills and appreciation for gemstones and minerals. Any one of our friendly members is happy to answer any questions along the way, just ask!
  • Collecting: Come in a look at our large collection of minerals and gemstone from around the globe.
  • Fossicking: When we get the chance, we love to hit the road and get out in the bush to fossick for gems and minerals. In collaboration with other clubs, we can gain access to areas off the beaten track that usually yield good finds. Perhaps you know of places where the club can fossick? Just let us know!

Join us today in discovering the world of lapidary, whether you’re a seasoned lapidary artist or someone just starting to explore this fascinating hobby. Together, we will cut, shape, and polish our way to a deeper appreciation of Earth’s hidden treasures while fostering a strong sense of community and creativity.

Drop into the Club and say G’day!

Happy Cabbing
